Vandals paint ‘Go home’ on holiday homes... being used by NHS key staff:

-

VANDALS who painted “go home” on holiday homes in Pwllheli targeted properties that were set aside for key workers.

North Wales Police said the properties on Pwllheli North Quay, which were daubed in graffiti overnight, were actually being offered out to those helping fight the coronavirus outbreak.

Many locals have slammed the act of vandalism, and the police have now issued a statement asking those who carried it out to think of the workers who were due to move in.

A spokesman said: “Today, we have been called to an incident in Pwllheli, where holiday accommodation has been vandalised. These homes are being offered to key workers who cannot go home to their families.

“The owners of the properties and the key workers are making a significant sacrifice to contribute to the collective response to the coronavirus outbreak.

“From our patrols we can say that the vast majority of seasonal properties are not occupied by tourists and have been given up to local people.

“We take reports such as this extremely seriously. We urge the public not to take the law into their own hands.”

They added: “Now more than ever we cannot afford to divert our stretched emergency services away from the work of collectively tackling this pandemic.

“Ask yourself how you would feel returning to this after a long shift keeping the community safe.”

The culprits have been criticised on Facebook with several people pointing out that in order to write the graffiti they themselves will have been flouting coronavirus lockdown rules.

Gwynedd Councillor for Pwllheli, Hefin Underwood, said: “Waking up to this is embarrassing.

“Many of these houses are bought locally and one is used as a local business.

“The police are working hard with the local community as it is to make sure that people are not visiting their holiday homes now to have to deal with this, this morning.

“We don’t need this in Pwllheli.”

Local residents have since been out to paint over the graffiti.
