Weekend feast of music from Wales and further afield

WE LOOK AHEAD TO A HOPEFULLY LOCKDOWN-FREE AUTUMN...

-

FOLLOWING on from the Government’s advice on Covid-19 and social distancing, the organisers of the Focus Wales festival have postponed the 10th anniversary festival until October 7-10, from its original dates in May.

All wristbands purchased for the event will be honoured for the new festival dates at the original price, and all the individual show tickets will remain valid for the rearranged shows.

Those who have already bought wristbands and tickets will receive an email update announcing the rearranged show times and dates.

The vast majority of the lineup have already been rebooked, so there will still be over 250 artists from Wales and beyond performing at 20 stages throughout Wrexham.

There will be emerging Welsh talent, established names and international acts, with Canada, Spain, Austria, Hong Kong and India among the countries represented.

The genres represented are also very diverse with Scottish post-punk indie rockers The Twilight Sad; Americana, folk, pop singer-songwriter Rebecca Hurn; Quintet Tarantino, an unique take on a traditional brass quintet; popular Jazz from Ophelia Xerri; folk-tinged indie pop trio Mondegreen; alternative folk singer Georgia Ruth; Wrexham-based Welsh learners Cor DAW; Band Pres Llareggub, who take the brass band tradition of the North Wales slate villages, and infuse it with New Orleans and Hip Hop influences; and classically trained harpist Catrin Finch.

These are just a small fraction of the line-up, so check out the Focus Wales website to find out more about these and many other artistes, and you can listen to some of their music to get a better idea of what might appeal to you. There should be something for everyone.

You might be interested in the ins and outs of the music industry as well as in simply enjoying music. If so, the interactive programme of the New Music Conference, featuring experts from all sectors of the music industry may well e of interest to you.

You might have an idea for an arts project or performance which might fit well with the Focus Wales programme of music and conferences, or may be a film-maker seeking to be showcased, and perhaps hoping for an award. If this is indeed the case then check out the Focus Wales website to apply for a spot.

Focus Wales wants to provide as much support as possible to musicians and the wider music industry during this difficult time, and has created a dedicated page on its website to share as much information as possible with the Welsh music community, and will be keeping this page and social media up to date with all the new information it can find. You can find this information at www.focuswales.com/ musichelp.
