Thought for the week

- Fr. John Saleeb.

DURING such unprecedented times, it is easy for us to lose sight of hope. However, thankfully, the number of new infections and deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus has begun to decline in the UK.

Perhaps this is the time to reflect on the exceptional experience that every citizen both here and in the rest of the world has been (and in many countries continues) going through. We offer our condolences to those who have lost loved ones due to this pandemic and pray for a speedy recovery for those bravely battling the virus. As we reflect on the experience of lockdown itself, we will be able to find I believe a silver lining. It has made us all aware of and thankful for the great efforts of our doctors, nurses, and health care professionals: those who work hard to help ease the pain, treat the disease, and bring hope to patients and their families. It indeed was a great gesture to have their efforts acknowledged by a clapping nation and a reminder also of how we need to appreciate everyone who works hard at supporting our daily lives at all times.

This lockdown has also emphasised the importance of family. In this busy modern world, it is easy not to spend enough time caring about the ones we love but due to this pandemic, people have slowed down and begun to miss, think, and care more for others. Churches and places of worship were closed, yet innumerable places of worship were opened in each home and heart.

As we all healed indoors, nature healed alongside us too with pollution levels dropping and animals roaming freely. It is wise indeed to count our blessings.
