Dad-of-four found dead at home on Father’s Day

-

AN “excellent father” died after taking a mixture of illegal drugs, an inquest heard.

Gethin Richard Sims, 35, was found dead at his home on Abererch Road, Pwllheli, on Father’s Day, June 21.

An inquest into his death held in Caernarfon revealed how he had been drinking and taking drugs with friends at the property the night before.

Mr Sims, an electrician, was found in the bath by his neighbour who called emergency services. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement read out during the inquest, Gareth Wyn Jones stated he had been at the property with Mr Sims the night before.

Mr Jones said that when he arrived at the property Mr Sims told him he had “been up for days doing speed”. He also stated that during the evening Mr Sims went to get more alcohol from the shop then went to get some cocaine.

Toxicology reports showed that Mr Sims had 160mg of alcohol in his system – twice the legal driving limit – along with an amount of amphetamine which was above the toxic level and can be fatal.

The reports also showed how he had Benzoylecgonine in his system which is evidence that he had also taken cocaine at some point prior to his death.

Codeine and paracetamol were also found in his blood with the latter being described as being at a “therapeutic to potentially toxic” level.

A cause of death was given as cardiorespiratory failure.

Assistant Coroner Katie Sutherland ruled that Mr Sims had died as a result of the effect of the multiple drugs combined.

She said: “Sadly Mr Sims had taken a number of drugs prior to his death. Combined these drugs caused cardiorespiratory failure.”

Miss Sutherland concluded Mr Sim’s death was drug related.

During the inquest Mr Sims was described by his father as an “excellent” dad who was also very dedicated to his work.
