POLICE BREAK UP TEEN BEACH PARTY
NORTH Wales Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol and cigarettes after breaking up a teenage beach party that breached Covid rules.
Officers were called to Abersoch beach on Friday night, where nearly 30 youths had gathered.
The youngsters, all aged 15-16 years, had brought along supplies for a night-time party despite temperatures dipping close to freezing.
Facebook pictures shared by Gwynedd South police showed bottles of Sol and Corona beer, WKD bottles, a pack of Strongbow cider and at least one bottle of Smirnoff vodka.
Police have begun cracking down in the region following a series of underage parties in the area.
All the youths involved will now receive a written warning about breaching coronavirus regulations that prohibit outside gatherings of more than four people.
Their parents will also be sent letters by the police.
In response to the Facebook post, a number of people condemned parents for not keeping a close enough eye on their children.
Others suggested a dispersal order in nearby Pwllheli (see main story, this page) may have prompted the Abersoch party.
Parents in particular are being asked to ensure they know where their children are – and to make them aware of the dispersal order.
In recent weeks police have been tackling a spate of parties involving under-age drinking in southern Gwynedd.
Earlier this month officers confiscated alcohol after breaking up a night-time beach party involving more than 15 teenagers on Tywyn.
Police said it was clear many at the party were not observing social distancing, with many “hugging” each other.
And last weekend officers from Dolgellau and Tywyn were called to a party of more than 30 youths involved in under age drinking at Tywyn local cricket club.
In all three incidents officers were left to clean up the mess.
