Four tiers of Covid controls in Wales

-

A new system of alert levels that determine which coronavirus restrictions are in force has been introduced.

The Welsh Government has this week updated their “coronavirus control plan” with a four-tiered alert system in a bid to control the virus.

The regulations will be applied at a national level, but if there is evidence of a sustained variation between parts of Wales, the approach allows for “regional and local application.”

Wales is in level three, but health minister Vaughan Gething said it could be increased to four if warranted.

In level three, up to two households can form an extended bubble: nobody from outside that bubble can meet in private homes.

Up to four people from different households can meet in regulated settings such as pubs, or outdoors, excluding gardens.

A maximum of 15 people can take part in organised indoor activities, while up to 30 could take part in organised outdoor activities. Stadiums remain closed to spectators.

Non-essential retail and close-contact services such as hairdressers can remain open. Hospitality businesses cannot sell alcohol, and must close at 6pm, but can provide takeaway service after 6pm.

Holiday accommodation could remain open.

Entertainment venues must remain closed, although drive-in cinema and theatre is allowed, while indoor and outdoor visitor attractions, nightclubs, venues for events and conferences and ice rinks must close.

Leisure and fitness facilities can remain open.

Places of worship, libraries and playgrounds can stay open.

“Life events” such as weddings and funerals would see a limit on the numbers at the ceremony set by the venue, with a maximum of 15 indoors and 30 outdoors at the reception or wake.

People cannot go to or from areas of “high prevalence”, such as tier three areas in England, and are advised against travel to lower prevalence areas in other parts of the UK. People are advised not to travel internationally.

Schools and childcare settings remain open throughout all levels, but additional precautions such as using face coverings come into force at different points.
