‘She’s spoilt but she’s a good kid: Mum hits back after online flak over presents pile pic

MUM HITS BACK AT ONLINE CRITICS AFTER PRESSIE HAUL PIC DRAWS FLAK

AMUM says she was shamed on Facebook after sharing her daughter’s Christmas present pile.

Kayleigh Moran, 26, posted a photo of the giant haul of gifts on a Facebook page where parents share pictures of their stashes.

But the single mum from Porthmadog says she was met with negative comments from people claiming her seven-yearold daughter Daisy Wilson is a “spoilt brat”.

She admits she usually goes “overboard with Christmas and birthdays” – spending around £600 this Christmas – but says the remarks were unfair, particularly as her daughter does a lot of charity work.

“What has annoyed me is that even though she is spoilt, she is a beauty pageant finalist and she does a lot of charity work,” Kayleigh said.

“Throughout the year she’s raised over £1,000 for a children’s cancer charity, as well as various collections for our local zoo, cat sanctuary and Women’s Aid.

“She sorts through her old toys to donate to children’s charities and she regularly holds collections for animal shelters and foodbanks.”

Daisy’s present haul this Christmas includes a tablet, an electronic keyboard, a karaoke machine, a makeup set, a selfie light and toys.

Kayleigh added: “She’s also the only grandchild to my mum and she gets spoilt rotten by her.

“She has her own bedroom there full of antiques bought for her, and has gold jewellery from her.”

But Kayleigh says everything has been bought with her own hard-earned cash. As well as studying social sciences and humanities at college, she’s worked full-time since having Daisy, running her own small business and waitressing.

“I’ve worked since being 13 and I’ve worked for everything we have,” Kayleigh said. “On a normal week I’ll work 40 hours and I also own a small craft business.

“Everything Daisy gets, I’ve worked for. I don’t spend much on myself, I don’t get my hair or nails done or have the latest phone, but Daisy goes to the hairdresser every few weeks and when Covid is over we’re hoping she can have her nails done at a salon on a regular basis.

“She’s into her Spanish clothes, Monsoon and sport designers and her wardrobe is filled with them. Mine still has Primark clothes from years ago, but I’d rather spend on Daisy.

“I don’t get any holidays but I try to take her to Disneyland every couple of years. If Covid eases next year I’ll hopefully take her to Tenerife to swim with dolphins.”

Daisy has been going to dance class since she was 12 months old and regularly takes part in pageants – hobbies that cost Kayleigh thousands of pounds.

“They can be pricey with everything and pageants cost hundreds, but it’s all worth it,” she said. “Dance has easily cost a few grand, with lessons weekly and outfits. I’ve been lucky with her pageant outfits as I buy them from eBay and spend literally weeks adding diamantes on. But when she goes on the stage her dresses are going to cost a good couple of hundred each and she needs three of those, then there’s hair appointments.”

She added: “She’s a clever girl as well as goodhearted and I don’t see why she shouldn’t be spoilt if she’s a good kid.”
