Part finished restaurant and hotel site goes up for sale
A PART finished hotel and restaurant development at a former grammar school has been placed on the market.
Jim Leach took on the former Old Grammar School in Bala when it was completely dilapidated and in need of complete renovation.
The building dates back to 1851 and was built when Edward Meyrick a cleric born at Garthlwyd bequeathed money for its construction. It later became a restaurant.
Mr Leach has invested money into former school to initially make structrual repairs and then create a hospitality space - with phase three to build hoyel accommodation.
But he has now taken the decision to sell so he can focus on other investments. It is on the market for £750,000 with Fleurets.
Tim Martin, divisional director with Fleurets, said: “It’s a fantastic, historic site with lots of potential, and obviously Bala and the surrounding area is getting busier and busier, particularly with outdoor pursuits / leisure etc.”
He added: “The project was set into three phases; phase one was to make good the building and make significant repairs to the structure, which has been completed, phase two was to make the ground floor operational as a hospitality venue, offering significant space for dining, inside and outside, which is largely complete, and phase three was then to
develop the first floor with accommodation, which is yet to commence.”
MR Martin said: “The vendor has invested a lot to get it to this stage, but wants to concentrate on other interests now, so it leaves quite a blank canvas for the right investor to make this amazing building something really special - either to continue with the idea of a hospitality venue, or change of use as residential.”
