AN inquest has opened into the death of an ‘amazing’ grandad, killed in a tragic road accident. Eric Bergqvist, 74, of 2 Bryn Ffynnon, Gryn Goch, died after a car crashed into him while he stood by his broken down vehicle.

The accident took place on the A499 near Gyrn Goch in Gwynedd on Friday, February 19.

The formal opening of the inquest into his death held in Caernarfon heard how he got out of his car and was leaning against it when another vehicle crashed into him.

Sadly Mr Bergqvist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the incident.

After a post mortem was carried out on Mr Bergqvist the provisional cause of death was given as multiple injuries to his head, neck and chest.

Acting coroner for North West Wales Katie Sutherland has adjourned the full inquest into Mr Bergqvist’s death while a police investigation is carried out.

In a statement released by Mr Bergqvist’s family they described him as “an amazing treasure” and a “beloved Taid”.

They said: “Dad, grandad, partner, family member or friend. “However, you knew him; Eric was an amazing treasure to have in your life and everyone is deeply shocked by his sudden loss.

“His grandchildren cannot imagine never being able to see their beloved Taid again and his partner Gretta says he was her anchor and she doesn’t know what she will do without him.” Following his death, North Wales Police issued a statement appealing for witnesses.
