GALE WARNING FOR COUNTY

-

FORECASTERS have warned that severe gales - some reaching up to 90mph - will strike North Wales later today and through the night.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Wednesday and Thursday as people are warned to expect damage and disruption from the stormy weather.

Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said: “After the recent settled spell the weather will turn more unsettled this week with strong winds and rain.

“Yellow weather warnings for wind are in force.

“The second of two areas of low pressure is likely to bring the most widespread strong winds, with gusts of 55mph widely across England and Wales later on Wednesday and Thursday, with gusts up to 70mph in exposed western locations.”

While the Met Office has said North Wales could see gusts of up to 78mph, the BBC forecast, provided by MeteoGroup, has predicted gusts reaching 94mph.

As the areas of low pressure move away from the UK through Thursday afternoon the winds will ease and the rain will turn more showery with spells of sunshine.

Blustery showers will continue through the weekend with the driest conditions in the east.

It is set to be a very windy evening in Gwynedd today, with speeds forecast to rise above 40mph from about 2pm.

In Caernarfon, those speeds are set to peak at around 64mph in the early hours of Thursday, before easing through the day slowly.

Gusts will hit their peak in areas around Blaenau Ffestiniog at 11pm on Wednesday, with speeds of about 65mph, before slowly easing through the night.

And on Llŷn, gusts will hit about 63mph by the early hours of Thursday before easing.

Anglesey is also expected to be hit by gusts above 40mph from about 2pm today.

Gusts will hit a peak of about 64mph from Thursday morning, before slowly easing through the day.
