CANARIES AND BALA IN HUNT

-

WINS for Caernarfon and Bala kept up the pressure in a tight race for top-six finishing spots in the JD Cymru Premier League.

Noah Edwards and Cai Joes scored the goals that enabled Caernarfon to pick up three precious points with a 2-1 road win at Haverfordwest County.

Bala Town beat Flint Town United with a convincing home performance.

Former Wales international David Edwards knocked in a first half goal for the home side and then Ollie Shannon stuck twice in five minutes on the hour mark to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Jack Kenny clawed one back for Flint, but it was too little, too late.

The results leave just two points separating the teams from fourth to eighth (table opposite).

The stars aligned perfectly for JD Cymru Premier leader The New

Saints as they increased the gap at the top of the table to nine points thanks to a 2-0 home win over title rivals Newtown and Bala’s defeat of Flint.

Ash Baker came up with a goal and an assist to make things safe for Anthony Limbrick’s side and hot-shot Declan McManus stretched his league tally to 13 with the opening goal of the game on the hour mark.

That made it 19 for the season for the Scottish marksman.

John Owen struck early for much improved Aberystwyth Town as they built on their shock 1-0 home win over The New Saints to stretch their unbeaten run to three games with a 1-0 win at Cardiff Met.

Owen’s goal came in the 10th minute of an otherwise even contest and they hung on to win from there and beat the students for the first time in nine games.
