FFIT CYMRU STARS SMASH 15-STONE WEIGHT LOSS MARK

-

THE stars of a popular health TV series have continued with their dramatic transformation by smashing the 15 stone weight-loss mark in just over six months.

The five leaders of S4C’s FFIT Cymru began their bid to adopt a healthier and fitter lifestyle back at the start of the series in April, three of whom are from Gwynedd: Lois from Y Ffôr, Dylan from Rhosgadfan and Bronwen from Bethel.

Over the course of seven weeks, the five followed tailored food and fitness plans designed by three experts, personal trainer Rae Carpenter, dietician Sioned Quirke and psychologist Dr Ioan Rees.

During the course of the series, they managed to lose a total of nine stone in weight, while dramatically improving their health.

In a six-month reunion programme, FFIT Cymru: Chwe Mis Wedyn, which is now available to watch on demand on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer, the leaders, experts and presenter Lisa Gwilym come together one final time for a special reunion.

We’ll hear about the exciting developments in each of their lives since the cameras left, and to what extent the healthy habits have remained.

There is inspiration to be found in each of the leaders’ stories, and no one less than Lois Morgan-Pritchard from Y Ffôr in Penllŷn.

The mother-of-two who

owns a beauty business, lost a stone and five pounds during the series, and it was revealed in the reunion that she had doubled that weight-loss in the six months since.

During that time, she has also managed to run 10 kilometres, with the support of her family; a mighty milestone considering that 12 years ago, she was paralysed from her waist down after being diagnosed with the rare Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

“I got up one morning and thought, ‘I’m going to run 10k today!” said Lois.

“Huw and the kids were supporting me in the car, giving me a piece of banana every now and then! Huw has always been there for me, even when I was in a wheelchair.

“I’m healthier now, and enjoying life and having more

time with the family.

“It feels like everything has fallen into place.”

Although the five leaders lost a combined fifteen stone in just over six months, the successes stretch far further than just the scales.

For Dylan Humphreys from Rhosgadfan, who runs his own digger company, his transformation has meant that he no longer needs a previously-planned hernia operation, having shed a total of four stone and five pounds.

The journey also led Dylan to begin cycling, something which has developed into a real passion since the end of the series, with the father-ofthree having cycled hundreds of miles, and in turn, raising over £1,000 for Porthdinllaen RNLI station.

Someone else who has developed a keen new interest is the teacher from

Prestatyn, Siôn Huw Davies, who has began a collection of colourful medals from a series of 5k races over the last few months.

Although he admits that the last six months haven’t all been easy, he has still posted a weight loss of two stone and eight pounds and is now happy to be back on the right track with the support of his wife, and his “rock”, Rachel.

And while training to become a GP, the last six months haven’t been entirely straightforward for Dr Bronwen Price, from Bethel.

Despite working different shift patterns and moving to different accommodation, Bronwen has also continued her FFIT Cymru journey, losing almost half a stone after her initial one stone six pound loss during the series.

But having been given the keys to her new house in Cardiff, she is determined to continue with her weekly yoga sessions and is excited at the prospect of preparing healthy meals in her new kitchen!
