‘Love song for Wales’ a hit on Facebook

-

A MUSICIAN has written an epic song about Wales following the men’s football team’s historic World Cup qualification.

Dario Darnell, who goes by the name of Youngr, lives in Aberdaron in Pen Llŷn.

Since moving to North Wales last year from London, the Manchester musician has fallen in love with the region, so much so, that he has written and performed a song dedicated to the place.

Much to his surprise, the music video has become a hit for listeners across Wales.

Following Rob Page’s men’s success at Cardiff City Stadium in the World Cup play off, Dario decided to share a music video of his song about Wales.

Dario said: “Moving elsewhere outside of London as a musician is scary, but lockdown allowed us to do it.

“My partner’s mum is from Porthmadog, so she knew of the area. We just fell in love with this magical place and the rest is history.”

Dario and his partner now live in Aberdaron. Inspired by his natural surroundings, the musician decided to write a song about the place he now calls home. The song, Wild, Wild Wales, was his response to “a beautiful place that I wanted to show my appreciation for - it has given me so much in the past year, I just wanted to document it.”

The video has garnered over 72,000 views on Facebook. “I wasn’t expecting such a huge reaction,” he said. “But just two days ago, I watched the Welsh football game and the whole of Wales had a buzz about it.

“I didn’t want to come across as if I was pretending to be Welsh. But I’m really glad to see how it was received - a lot of people saying ‘croeso’ and ‘diolch.’”

Dario is learning Welsh and is keen to adapt to Welsh life: “My girlfriend is five months pregnant at the moment, so this might be the place where we raise our Welsh-speaking daughter.”
