INQUEST OPENS INTO B4391 CRASH DEATH OF GRANDAD

THE inquest into the death of a “greatly-missed” grandad who died after a collision in Gwynedd last month has opened.

Gary Leslie Broad, 62, passed away two days after he was involved in a car accident on November 19 near Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The opening of the inquest into his death, held in Caernarfon last Wednesday heard how Mr Broad had been travelling west of Llan Ffestiniog when his vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the B4391.

Hindhead area of Surrey, was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with “lifethreat­ening” injuries after the collision but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after 1pm on November 21.

The road was closed for nearly six hours, while emergency services worked at the scene following the incident. A post mortem examinatio­n was not ordered as those treating Mr Broad at the Royal Stoke University Hospital were able to propose a cause of death.

A provisiona­l cause of death was given as traumatic brain injury. assistant coroner, Sarah Riley, said: “The investigat­ion into Mr Broad’s death remains ongoing and, while the inquest has been formally opened, it is adjourned pending completion of further investigat­ions.”

Following Mr Broad’s death, his family paid tribute to him. They said: “Gary was a father of two and grandad to Ollie.

“He had a passion for adventures and all sports - particular­ly hiking, skiing and motor racing. He lived an action-packed life and his infectious personalit­y will be missed greatly by his partner Amanda, family and friends.”

North Wales Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision, which involved a Mazda MX5 and a Land Rover, at around 1pm.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our sympathies are with Mr Broad’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“The investigat­ion is under way and we continue to appeal to anybody who may have been travelling along the B4391 at Blaenau Ffestiniog and who may have dash cam footage to contact us as soon as possible.”
