Canaries’ slump goes on at Aber

-

CAERNARFON finished the first phase of the JD Cymru Premier season with a disappointing 2-1 loss at Aberystwyth.

Harry Arinson took eight minutes to fire Aberystwyth in front against the Canaries and Niall Flint made it 2-0 in the 77th minute.

Rhys Alun Williams scored a spectacular consolation goal on 89 minutes, but Anthony Williams’ men were good value for their win.

Cardiff Met enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Airbus UK Broughton.

Harry Owen gave the students a first-half lead and Eliot Evans doubled with his sixth league goal of the campaign.

Adam Davies cut the gap just before the hour mark, but Chris Craven guaranteed the points for the Archers with their third.

Flint Town United beat Pontypridd United 4-1.

The two teams will clash twice more in the Play-Off Conference, with Ponty hoping to hang onto their top-flight status in their first season in the division.

Their cause wasn’t helped with relegation rivals Aberystwyth Town winning 2-1 at home against Caernarfon Town.

Two goals in three minutes in the first half sent Flint into a lead they never lost as they earned their first victory since December 23 to end a run of five games without a win. It also earned them a league double over the South Wales side.

Chester loanee Zack Clarke got the opener and Jean-Louis AkpaAkpro added a quickfire second. The second half was dominated by teenage talent Clarke as he went on to claim a hat-trick in his first senior game for the club. Joe Evans grabbed a consolation score for the visitors. A goal-line clearance by Jordan Carroll prevented Ponty skipper Clayton Green reducing the deficit further.

Two local teams are in FAW Trophy action at the weekend, with quarter-final places at stake.

Llanberis travel to Baglan Dragons, currently in the lower half of the Ardal South-West league, while Nantlle Vale will host Cardiff Corinthians, currently eight points clear at the top of the South Wales Alliance Premier.
