Lloyd George Museum remains closed after burst pipe damage

-

A popular Llŷn tourist attraction remains shut three weeks after a burst pipe caused damage to the building.

The Lloyd George Museum in Llanystumdwy near Criccieth was closed on January 10.

The museum, based at David Lloyd George’s childhood home, tells the story of the colourful politician who led Britain to victory as Prime Minister during World War One - from his childhood in Llanystumdwy to Downing Street and beyond.

It is furnished as it was when he lived there between 1864 and 1880.

The Lloyd George Museum is one of only two museums in

Britain specifically for former prime ministers, the other being the Winston Churchill Museum in London.

It houses a valuable collection of artefacts including the Treaty of Versailles, costumes and personal items.

Gwynedd Council has reassured that none of these “priceless items” have been damaged by the water, stating that “museum staff are working hard to continue to safeguard the collection as repair work gets under way.”

The Council’s Property Department and insurance company are believe to be still assessing the situation.

“Any members of the public planning on visiting the museum in the spring are kindly asked to check the Council’s website before travelling to make sure if it is open.

“Details will be available at: www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/ Museums.

“Cyngor Gwynedd is grateful for the public’s patience and understanding while these important restorations take place.”
