Mills lands new personal best for mirror carp

-

SINCE the flood water has started to dissipate, anglers returning to Biggleswade & Hitchin Angling Association’s Gingerbread Lake have enjoyed some great catches of both carp and bream.

Lake regular Glenn Mills reported a fantastic catch which included two carp weighing over 40lb each. His haul was made up of a 42lb

8oz mirror known as the Brown Fish – which was a new personal best for Mills, a 41lb 4oz mirror and two other mirrors weighing 25lb 10oz and 23lb 10oz plus six bream.

Darren Holmes filmed a fish that was behaving oddly on the surface which was demolished by a furious attack by a pike.

Catches at Swan Lake continue to increase where one member caught two early season tench, the best weighing 6lb 8oz.

Multiple catches of both carp and bream have also been taken.

David Grant returned to the lake for his fortnightly 72-hour session but had to wait util 5am on his last day before getting a run. After a hard fight with the fish, Grant netted a pristine 22lb 9oz mirror carp.

Perhaps, the most sensational catch though was made by Julian Peacock after having a run on a popped up boilie. It was not one fish he netted but two, a 10-12lb pike with an eel around 2.5lb down its throat.

Lake have been catching carp too although sport has not been as frantic as it normally is there.

It is now the close season on the rivers but throughout the winter months members have been making some great catches with numerous chub over 6lb up to 6lb 11oz.

In the coming season, the Association has reluctantly decided to give up the fishing rights at Tyringham on the River Ouse but, members will now have an opportunity to fish two new stretches of the river shared with Olney & Clifton AC.

These new stretches are known to hold numbers of big perch along with other species and are located upstream of our Harrold stretch with easy access.
