PHD TO RECLAIM SAINSBURY’S MEDIA BUSINESS

Sainsbury’s is poised to award its £115m media account to PHD, four months after M/SIX won the business. PHD and parent company Omnicom Media Group challenged the result of the original review in February.

CYBER ATTACK HITS WPP AGENCIES

WPP fell victim to a cyber attack involving a ransomware virus, with staff told to disconnect their computers. A “massive global malware attack” disrupted agencies on 27 June, staff from multiple WPP shops were told.

The European Commission has fined Google €2.42bn (£2.14bn) for breaching European Union antitrust rules. The company was found to have abused its market dominance as a search engine by giving an illegal advantage to its comparison shopping service.

ANTI-CORRUPTION POLICE RAID HAVAS’ PARIS HQ

Havas’ headquarte­rs in Paris were raided by anti-corruption police last week over an inquiry into a visit by president Emmanuel Macron to CES Las Vegas. The investigat­ion is looking into whether Business France awarded a contract to Havas to organise a party at CES without a bid.

CANNES JURIES SPLIT ON GRAHAM

A Cannes jury dismissed the multi-awardwinni­ng “Meet Graham” campaign by Clemenger BBDO because it reminded them too much of a 1985 anti-smoking ad. The work for the Transport Accident Commission of Victoria, which won two Grands Prix last week, was considered by the Integrated and Titanium judges to be similar to “Natural born smoker” by FCO London.

Sky Media has signed up to be the headline partner of Campaign’s Marketing New Thinking Awards for the third year running.
