PHD TO RE­CLAIM SAINS­BURY’S ME­DIA BUSI­NESS

Sains­bury’s is poised to award its £115m me­dia ac­count to PHD, four months af­ter M/SIX won the busi­ness. PHD and par­ent com­pany Om­ni­com Me­dia Group chal­lenged the re­sult of the orig­i­nal re­view in Fe­bru­ary.

CY­BER AT­TACK HITS WPP AGEN­CIES

WPP fell vic­tim to a cy­ber at­tack in­volv­ing a ran­somware virus, with staff told to dis­con­nect their com­put­ers. A “mas­sive global mal­ware at­tack” dis­rupted agen­cies on 27 June, staff from mul­ti­ple WPP shops were told.

GOOGLE SLAPPED WITH £2BN AN­TITRUST FINE

The Euro­pean Com­mis­sion has fined Google €2.42bn (£2.14bn) for breach­ing Euro­pean Union an­titrust rules. The com­pany was found to have abused its mar­ket dom­i­nance as a search en­gine by giv­ing an il­le­gal ad­van­tage to its com­par­i­son shop­ping ser­vice.

PEU­GEOT/CITROËN PAR­ENT PICKS MEDIACOM

Mediacom has won the es­ti­mated €875m (£773m) global me­dia ac­count for PSA Group, Europe’s sec­ond-big­gest car-maker and owner of Peu­geot and Citroën.

ANTI-COR­RUP­TION PO­LICE RAID HAVAS’ PARIS HQ

Havas’ head­quar­ters in Paris were raided by anti-cor­rup­tion po­lice last week over an in­quiry into a visit by pres­i­dent Em­manuel Macron to CES Las Ve­gas. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is look­ing into whether Busi­ness France awarded a con­tract to Havas to or­gan­ise a party at CES with­out a bid.

CANNES JU­RIES SPLIT ON GRA­HAM

A Cannes jury dis­missed the multi-award­win­ning “Meet Gra­ham” cam­paign by Cle­menger BBDO be­cause it re­minded them too much of a 1985 anti-smok­ing ad. The work for the Trans­port Ac­ci­dent Com­mis­sion of Vic­to­ria, which won two Grands Prix last week, was con­sid­ered by the In­te­grated and Ti­ta­nium judges to be sim­i­lar to “Nat­u­ral born smoker” by FCO London.

SKY ME­DIA PART­NERS NEW THINK­ING AWARDS

Sky Me­dia has signed up to be the head­line part­ner of Cam­paign’s Mar­ket­ing New Think­ing Awards for the third year run­ning.
