Detective writer tops Scots crime bestsellers

-

TALES of a Kintyre cop are gripping the nation and his latest adventure is riding high at the top of the charts.

Denzil Meyrick’s The Rat Stone Serenade has topped the Scottish crime bestsellers chart since its launch in April.

Number one

Not only has the book held the number one spot ever since but his other three titles – Whisky in Small Glasses, The Last Witness and Dark Suits and Sad Songs – were at one stage in positions two, three and four and are all still in the top 10.

DCI Daley’s latest outing is a South Kintyre-based mystery featuring an ancient curse preparing to unleash its fury upon a wealthy family.

The grizzly deaths featured in the story have led to an invitation for Meyrick to speak at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August alongside another crime writer.

Meyrick and detective writer Alex Gray, well known for his Inspector Lorimer mysteries, will discuss how to make murder into an entertaining read in a talk titled The Scent of Blood.

Meyrick said: ‘It is quite an honour to be asked to speak at this prestigious event.

‘The same day Alexander McCall Smith, the author of the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, will be speaking.

‘DCI Daley’s latest case has been my quickest selling of all the books and has been very well reviewed.

Fantastic

‘The support has been fantastic for the latest book.

‘Exponentially, the other books are selling as more people discover DCI Daley.

‘I have just completed the fifth in the series which is titled The Well

of the Winds and may be out for Christmas or early next year.’

The talk is on Monday August 15, at 8.30pm in the Baillie Gifford Corner Theatre.
