Watson hopes to follow in family footsteps

-

GREG Watson leads the way in the Dunaverty Championships as he hopes to add his name to a long list of previous Watson winners.

He is hoping to emulate several other family members by adding his name to the Champions board.

Due to the strong winds which prevailed for most of the day in the first round, played last Saturday, only two players managed to break 70.

Multiple champion George MacMillan’s 71 and Lee Mathieson’s 70 saw them trail Duncan Watson III, who posted a 67, while son Greg led the way with a terrific 61.

Christian Ivan led the handicap section with a net 59, with Duncan six strokes ahead in the seniors category.

The second round also presented very windy conditions, with the addition of heavy rain in the afternoon.

Four players managed to break 70, led by Lee Mathieson on 67, with George MacMillan one behind and Greg Watson two adrift.

George MacMillan will not give up his title easily though, proving in the past that he can fight back a deficit over the final two rounds.

Alex Roxburgh put in a sterling performance to lead the handicap section in round two, while Duncan Watson III stretched his lead in the seniors to nine from David Irwin.

The final two rounds will be held tomorrow, Saturday June 25.
