MAJIK money to fund dads and buggies

-

A CHARITY plans to use its latest cash-injection to reach more fathers in Kintyre.

Home-Start MAJIK (Mid Argyll, Jura, Islay and Kintyre) has received £10,577 from the STV Children’s Appeal to support its work to engage with more dads.

The grant will help fund three ‘Buggy Buddies’ walking groups across the area, where dads and their children can meet up and walk - with or without a buggy.

The charity, part of one of the UK’s leading family support charities, helps families with young children deal with the challenges they face in life by supporting parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.

A spokesperson said: ‘The groups will create an opportunity for dads and children to be active, enjoy the outdoors and meet other families, and will take place on Isle of Bute, Mid Argyll and Kintyre.’

The initiative is part of Home-Start Scotland’s commitment to Year of the Dad, a year of activity organised by Fathers Network Scotland and focused on embracing the potential of fathers and father figures.

Kelly Coates, co-ordinator at Home-Start MAJIK, said: ‘We know that dads can’t always access what we do, and might want to do something different.

‘This grant from STV Children’s Appeal will give us an opportunity to offer an activity which is already running successfully in Cowal and which we hope to replicate across the area.’
