Success for Lomond School pupils
Pupils and staff at Lomond School are celebrating one of its strongest SQA Exam results, with a third of all S4 pupils achieving straight A grades in all eight of their National 5 exams. Johanna Urquhart, principal, stated: ‘I am delighted for the whole school community. Pupils and staff have worked really hard to achieve these outstanding results. They are even more pleasing given that Lomond is not academically selective. Our ethos is one of high expectation and individualised support. It is very satisfying that our rich and diverse curriculum and focus on transferable skills and learning for life has paid such positive dividends. We will continue to build on these excellent results.’ Lomond School takes great pride in offering the scope and choice for their young people to develop as individuals, not just as university applicants. This model also ensures greater success in the crucial S6 year, because, should the young people wish, three new subjects are options to pick up again at Higher. Oban’s own Orla Sedgwick is the recipient of a Silver Academic Tie, having achieved at least six A grades at National 5. ‘To receive a Silver Academic Tie feels like a great achievement,’ Orla said. ‘All the work over the past two years and support from the school, friends and family has paid off. Lomond School has definitely helped me focus and given me the confidence and opportunities with extra classes and willing teachers to achieve the grades I wanted. I enjoy being a pupil at Lomond due to the warm and friendly atmosphere at both the school and the boarding house. The support and encouragement I have been given right from the start has benefitted me greatly.’ Lomond School is a leading Scottish co-educational HMC independent school founded in 1977. The school has around 400 students and provides day places for children aged three to 18 years and weekly and term boarding options from the age of 10.
Orla studies hard, asks for help when she needs it and follows the guidance given to her. Orla has really thrived in the boarding environment and makes the most of the extra evening tuition and access to the teachers onsite. She is a credit to the school and we are all very proud of her and her achievements.
