FunBox opens in Wee Toon

-

CHILDREN in Kintyre were treated to an exciting Animal Magic show by entertainers Funbox at their Victoria Hall show.

CHILDREN’S musical theatre group Funbox pulled out all the stops during its Campbeltown Animal Magic show.

More than 180 youngsters screamed the house down as they joined in songs with Funbox stars Anya, Gary and Kevin, formerly of Singing Kettle fame, when they played their Victoria Hall gig on Friday of last week.

Before the show Anya told the Courier: ‘Weekend touring is the fun part of our week. In Argyll, we are in Campbeltown, Oban and Helensburgh. ‘It is just the three of

us running the whole thing and Monday to Thursday we are officebased doing all the boring paperwork.

‘We do three tours a year. Last week we played in Glasgow to 1,800 people. Funbox has been the show for the past 18 months.

‘It is a different show every time because it all depends on which children come up on stage.’

Moustache

Kevin, twirling his moustache, said mischievously: ‘We get the ones who have had too many Haribos or too much Ribena, who are right out of the box themselves.

‘The show finishes at about 7pm but it will take mums and dads till 11pm to get them to bed.’

He added: ‘We are doing shows in England quite often and I wonder about my thick Aberdonian accent but we just speak a bit slower.’

Kevin became a fulltime entertainer with The Singing Kettle in 2001 after working in stage management. He wrote scripts for pantomime and shows and also looks after Funbox’s naughty dog Bonzo.

Gary, the third member of the stage team, said: ‘Next week we are in Wick, Huntly and Elgin but the travel is not as much fun as coming to Argyll.

‘We get to break at the Green Welly Stop and there are no speed cameras on the A83.’
