Tin Farm 5 run slogs to 10 years of trail action

-

A CROSS-COUNTRY five-kilometre race on the Kilberry peninsula will hit its 10th birthday milestone next month.

To celebrate the occasion, the Tin Farm 5, which takes place on the Ormsary estate on Sunday November 6 will have two new race categories – super veterans’ and juniors.

It is a 5.5km trail race and competitors can expect to get wet and muddy although last year’s event was held on a sparkling autumn day. Jura shimmered in the background as runners raced along the beach.

A spokesperson said: ‘So for all of you 50 years and older you now have your own age category.’

Organisers have been hoping to add a junior race for some years and have decided this is the year.

There will be two age categories: eight to 10 years and 11 to 13. Course details are still being finalised but will roughly be one mile and no longer than 1.5 miles in length. It will mainly be on tarmac roads around the estate but organisers hope to include a run along the beach.

The route will be very well marshalled and organisers plan to have two or three marshals who will run with the children for encouragement and to keep them safe.

Delighted

A spokesperson added: ‘We would be delighted if any parents want to join their children and jog along with them.’

The race day schedule is as follows. Junior registration: 10am to 10.45am; junior race briefing: 10.50am; junior race start: 11am; main registration: 10am to 11.45am; main race briefing: 11.50am; main race start: noon; prize giving for all: 2pm.

Entries opened last Sunday October 9 on www.entrycentral.com/Tin_Farm_5.
