Emergency services hold Texas scramble
KINTYR emergency services personnel stepped out of uniform and onto Dunaverty’s golf course.
No one needed rescuing as the weather stayed calm for the most part with only the last couple of teams feeling the brunt of the rain as 30 golfers from the police, RNLI, Coastguard, Highlands and Islands fire service and the ambulance service played a Texas scramble in mixed teams last Sunday.
Sponsorship from the Scottish Co-op, Tesco in Campbeltown, Springbank Distillery, Mach Dunes Golf Club and Glen Scotia in the form of prizes added to the day and helped make the event a great success.
Susan McLennan provided soup and food for the players as they finished their round and John Brown of West Coast Motors drove the bus.
The results were as follows: Texas scramble: 1 Graham Anderson, Kenny MacMillian, Gregor Menzies 53.9, 2 Alex Arkell, James Stevenson, John Biggins, Don Hardman 55.3, 3 Campbell McBrayne, Kenny Semple, Jonathan Bruce 56.0.
Nearest the pin: at the 2nd – Campbell McBrayne, 4th – Gregor Menzies, 7th – Graham Anderson, 14th – Scott Young, 16th – Kenny MacMillian. Straightest drive at the 18th – John Biggins. Nearest the pin in two shots at the 18th – Alastair O’May who could not get any closer than knocking it into the hole. Killer putting winner – Don Hardman and runner-up – Alastair MacLaren.
