Pudsey’s plinkers

SHOOTERS aim high for Children in Need at MACC’s indoor range.

AN INDOOR range shooting experience hit the bullseye and raised £1,200 for Children in Need.

Landrail Firearms Ltd held its postponed Plinking for Pudsey party last Friday evening at the indoor shooting range on MACC business park.

The event was originally scheduled to coincide with the BBC Children In Need charity fundraising programme two weeks ago, but was delayed due to a power cut that affected the airbase that night.

At least 50 guests attended the party, enjoying a traditional Argyll Bakeries barbecue, bonfire and shooting experience.

The evening was also a Machrihanish Gun Club guest event, during which non-MGC members were legally allowed to shoot fullbore firearms.

All invited guests sampled a range of firearms from .22 rifles through to .357 Magnum under-lever rifles and even some .45 calibre cap and ball revolvers.

The shooting competition was the brainchild of MGC member Julia Levick, the manager of Boots Longrow branch.

During the evening, Landrail director Peter Davie presented her a cheque for £1,200. Plinking for Pudsey competition prizes were also awarded during the party, with Jim Ewart and Jennifer McMurchy taking home the first prize hampers in the offhand and bench-rest classes.

Runners-up were Walter Campbell, Frank Stacey, Alex Campbell and Kyle MacLean, winning Landrail, Boots and Amazon vouchers.

Notably, all three top places in the benchrest class went to MGC junior members.

A spokesperson said: ‘The event finished at midnight among discarded party hats and the smell of gunsmoke – a great time was had by all. Peter and Paula would personally like to thank everyone for their efforts and generous donations, with a very special mention to the following:

‘C & D MacTaggart, Carradale Hotel, Conway Security, Craigard House Hotel, D McNair & Son, Dunvalanree Hotel, J Semple & Son Carradale, Jim Martin Supplies, Jonathan Hooper Vet Surgery, McIvor’s Florist, Network Carradale Bistro, Sabre Plastics Tooling, Scottish Tablet Company, The Owston Grange Group, The Tin Roof Diner and The Village at Mach Dunes.’
