TOURISTS will see a revamped Esplanade thanks to Catherine Dobbie’s determination.

THREE of the Wee Toon’s community projects have clinched cash from carrier bag charges.

Campbeltown shoppers cast their votes for the winning charities with tokens after checking out.

Campbeltown Community Council (CCC) was awarded £12,000. Dunaverty Hall was awarded £10,000 and RSPB Scotland was awarded £8,000.

At the CCC December meeting members congratulated Catherine Dobbie for her determination to improve the Esplanade which is how the £12,000 will be spent. It is intended to install low maintenance recycled plastic picnic benches, information boards and to refurbish existing street furniture.

Thanks

A CCC spokesman said that the award was also thanks to all the members of the community who voted for the project.

A Tesco spokesperson said: ‘Bags of Help has been a fantastic success.

‘We have been overwhelmed by the response of our customers and it’s been great to give people a say on how the money will be spent in their community.’

Campbeltown customers can vote for three different groups to receive funding each month. The campaign to refurbish Carradale play park is leading the latest voting in the scheme and looks set to gain £12,000.
