Shipshape Sinbad sailors drop anchor in Clachan
CLACHAN Calamities pantomime Sinbad took audiences on a subsea voyage to Neptune’s palace beneath the waves.
A few hiccups with lines at the dress rehearsal only added to the comedy during the group’s show last Thursday. It was followed by sell out performances on Friday and Saturday.
Stage assistants Iain and David cobbled together a great set of wooden waves to simulate a storm as Sinbad sailed the Dagenham Dustbin in Arthur Duff’s Adventures of
Sinbad. The writer played baddie of the piece the corrupt Cassim.
Lesley Kean made the dame’s role, Mrs Lavy Sinbad, her own despite a few nerves about taking over from regular performer Margaret Henderson.
Song, dance and sketch with plenty of opportunities for audience participation made Sinbad into a superb rocking show.
There was never any doubt that the vile Cassim would be outsmarted by resourceful Sinbad to take the hand of Jasmine as the show closed.
The other stars of the show were as follows: Queen Sultana: Viv Watt, Princess Jasmine: Morvern Paisley, Fatima: Helen, Ma Mhan: Alasdair Paisley, Neptune: Lori Silvan, Diamond queen: Nina, Gagool: Bernadette, Princess Coral: Robyn Macfie, Princess Ariel: Lucy Sinclair, Laguna: Lori Silvan, Bosun Bill: Eileen Harvey.
