THE Campbeltown

Courier has recruited a new trainee reporter.

Hannah O’Hanlon, 25, joined the editorial team at the start of January and, despite developing chickenpox on her third day and requiring two weeks off work, is back to full health and enjoying her new position.

A Campbeltown maternity unit baby, Hannah has lived most of her life in Tayinloan.

After Campbeltown Grammar School, she spent a couple of years in Glasgow, before returning home.

Hannah said: ‘I enjoyed living in the city, where everything was new and exciting, but I always knew that at the end of the day I’d return to Kintyre.’

She has had links to the Courier for a long time, as her sister, Rebecca Harvey, has worked in advertising here for about 10 years.

Last March, Hannah joined the Courier Centre shop as an assistant also helping at the Courier and Krisp Print.

Hannah applied for the recent trainee reporter’s position, despite having no prior experience in journalism, and, following two interviews, was offered the job.

Hannah said: ‘I have always had a passion for English and grammar, so journalism seemed like the ideal job where I could put those into practice and work locally.

‘It’s a steep learning curve and having two weeks of illness was not the best start.

‘With the helpful news editor on hand, I’m sure I’ll be a reasonable reporter in no time.’
