Proposed plans for police offices
THE BLUE line is about to become thinner in Kintyre as police buildings shut.
A meeting of Lochgilphead Community Council (LCC) heard last Monday that, after a consultation exercise, Police Scotland intends to sell Tarbert police office.
Relocated
In addition, there is an expectation that Carradale police office, which at the moment is a single manned office within a police house, could be relocated to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service building which is close by in the village.
Vacant
Campbeltown police office, which serves the communities of Kintyre and the Islands and South Kintyre, has a number of vacant offices within the building.
The police are keen to engage with other local emergency services with a view to them occupying some of the available spaces, with Campbeltown Coastguard already expressing an interest.
The information was in an email sent to LCC by Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Islands commander, Chief Inspector Marlene Baillie.
Scope
Chief Inspector Baillie said: ‘Work is presently ongoing to scope this proposal.’
Police Scotland also intend to sell Inveraray police buildings and instead base that office and Tarbert at the Lochgilphead office, which itself is an old building in need of attention.
It will look for opportunities to relocate to a more modern facility, suitable for their requirements, if one becomes available.
