Marathon feedback fantastic

- Elaine McGeachy, Campbeltown Running Club.

Sir, I am writing to thank the community once again for their kindness and hospitality over the Glen Scotia Marathon weekend.

I was incredibly happy with the success of the day – we were very lucky with the weather, which was brilliant and really made Kintyre’s first marathon the event it was. The feedback from runners, from far and wide, so far has been fantastic.

They commented on the great community support and the marshals around the route being so enthusiastic and motivating.

I want to thank anyone who helped out and the community for being so supportive as ever – so many volunteered their time to help cheer on runners and marshal them, keeping them safe or helping putting out signs. Of course I also want to congratulate all the participants who not only completed an incredibly tough course but committed months and months of their time for hard training in the Scottish winter.

I would like to thank the Coastguard, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and all the brilliant marshals without whom we couldn’t put on such an event. Special thanks to Glen Scotia for providing the marathon sponsorship which allowed the event to take place.

Thanks to all CRC members and individuals who helped with the race, too many to mention, but I will try to speak to you all in person.

I must thank Argyll Bakeries and Muneroy for providing much deserved food for all athletes, the Co-op for the fuel station food, including donating 200 bananas, CS Wind for water bottles, Argyll and Bute Council for the ferry terminal and timing clock, JM Supplies for the generator and Raymond Hosie Photography for capturing some of the special moments on camera.

Thanks to all the residents of Southend and around the route area who were patient, supportive and we hope it didn’t inconvenience them too much – we tried to keep traffic disruption minimal and have been around the course multiple times now to ensure there is no litter.

We hope that everyone is happy with the event and it will happen again in the future.
