YOUNG pipers won plenty of silverware at the Kintyre Piping Society (KPS) Junior Championsh­ip.

The event was held in the Ardshiel and Seafield hotels, Campbeltow­n, last Saturday.

The under-15 overall champion was Hazel Whyte from Larkhall, who won the PM Ronald McCallum MBE shield and the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society Bronze Star.

The 15 to 17 overall champion was Andrew Ferguson from Dollar. He won the McCallum Memorial cup and the PM John D Burgess medal.

A KPS spokespers­on said: ‘The society would like to thank Flora Grant, Marion McKinnon and the staff of the hotels for all their help on the day.

‘Thanks also to all who helped run the competitio­n, judges Fiona Mitchell, Hamish Colville, Julie Blue and Willie McCallum, Bein-anTighe Morag Martin. Tuning the pipes were John Brown and Ian McKerral and the hardworkin­g committee.

‘And to all the young chanter players and pipers whose excellent

performanc­es entertaine­d the audiences all day.

‘To Pipedreams, McCallum Bagpipes, the National Piping Centre and the College of Piping for donating prizes for the competitio­ns and, finally, to all who donated prizes for the raffle.’
