Sea cadet sets sights on South Korea trip
A SEA cadet from Campbeltown will embark on a once-in-alifetime opportunity.
Able Cadet Suen Yee Walker has been selected this year for the international exchange to South Korea, where the Sea Explorers will be holding their 25th International Youth Festival in Seoul from July 30 to August 13.
Thanks to the International Sea Cadet Association, around 80 cadets are offered an opportunity to meet other cadets from across the world, learning about different cultures and languages, broadening their horizons.
Suen Yee said: ‘I am excited and proud to be able to represent the Sea Cadets and Campbeltown.
‘I look forward to experiencing the differences of another country.’
Donnie Cameron, commanding officer of Campbeltown Sea Cadets, congratulated Suen Yee on the news and said: ‘The Sea Cadet exchange programme is offered to cadets all over the UK aged between 16 and 18.
With only limited places available for South Korea, we were thrilled that Suen Yee was selected.
‘We know she will be an excellent ambassador for the unit and Campbeltown.
‘Sea Cadets offers so many opportunities for young people, not just in terms of qualifications and training but also experiences like this that cadets will treasure for the rest of their lives.’
