Cinema seeks reel celluloid creatives
AS THE Campbeltown Picture House (CPH) project nears its red carpet moment, efforts are being made to set up groups of volunteers.
Recently community archivist Robin Patel chaired the first meeting to look into historical artefacts in the town hall.

Some of the treasures which Campbeltown Community Business Ltd volunteers have collected were displayed and Mr Patel gave a talk about the origins of cinema.
Mr Patel explained that there are historians working on the archive in Glasgow who have been astonished to find so many documents detailing every aspect of CPH.
The following week, Alasdair Satchel, from the Isle of Mull, ran the first meeting of the filmmaking group in the Skylight room at Campbeltown Community Education Centre.
Just five people turned up for a hands-on session of practical cinematography. Mr Satchel showed some old movies from the turn of the century and challenged the group with cameras he supplied to make a one-minute film.
Later these were edited together and made an astonishingly credi- ble film about people who had attended the centre that evening.
The next film-making group is on Wednesday April 26 from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Sessions
Mr Satchel said: ‘The aim of the sessions is to see if we can gather a group of people together across various ages, to make short, Pathé-style news reel films.
‘These can be screened before feature films in the Picture House, when it re-opens.
‘My aim is to explore different styles of work to allow a variety of ways of reaching audiences through the moving image.’
