A KINTYRE producer is hoping to smoke the opposition in a national fishing awards ceremony.

Kintyre Smokehouse has been shortlisted for the Fish Processor of the Year category in the Fishing News Awards 2017.

Archie McMillan, 71, and his wife Jane, 58, who run the business, will travel to Aberdeen’s Hilton Treetops Hotel for the awards ceremony, where comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner will be the MC.

Archie started out in the seafood industry 55 years ago, as a fisherman, before opening his smokehouse 29 years ago, producing some of Kintyre’s most iconic seafood.

Archie said: ‘We’re up against some tough opposition in these awards. It’s nice just to be nominated.’

Skipness Seafood Cabin has also been nominated, in the Coastal Fish Restaurant of the Year class.

Voting will close tonight (April 28) at midnight.
