Fatal crash driver admonished
A DANISH hunter who caused the death of a Campbeltown man in 2013 by driving on the wrong side of the road has been admonished.
Stefan Hansen, 25, previously denied a charge of causing death by dangerous driving but was convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving by a high court jury last year.
He had driven a Mitsubishi 4x4 southbound in the northbound carriageway of the A83 near Kennacraig, before colliding head-on with a MacLeod’s minibus, killing driver Andy Rennie, 62, and injuring his 10 passengers.
His sentence had been deferred for a year for him to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in Denmark.
Upon hearing at the High Court in Glasgow that Hansen had now completed the work, judge Lady Stacey admonished him.
She warned Hansen during sentencing last year that imprisonment would be an option if he failed to carry out the work.
She told him that his action had caused ‘devastation’ in a number of people’s lives, adding: ‘You will know you did a great deal of harm by your actions that day.’
