‘Men’s outfitting has now come full circle’

CLOTHES retailing runs like a thread through a Kintyre man’s life.

When Archie Millar took over A P Taylors at the end of March it was like going back to the future.

His maternal grandmother ran Archd Cook, from 1922 to 1949, a gents outfitters on the Longrow South corner, where the Courier Centre is today.

For generations of Campbeltonians it was known as Cook’s Corner and Archie’s middle name is Cook, continuing the tradition.

Archie explained: ‘The family sold to A P Taylors who first moved to Kirk Street and then to the current Main Street location.

‘Men’s outfitting has now come full circle.’

Printed garments

Archie, who was a keen footballer in his youth with Campbeltown Pupils, opened Wee Toon Sports in 2010 and followed up with Wee Toon Trends in 2014 which also offers printed garments such as T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Tracy Millar added: ‘Buying from the web is a problem but in Campbeltown the community does support us.

‘In a shop, from 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, you can see, touch and try clothes for fit. The kilt hire will still be a big part of the business and we are looking into offering suit rental as well.’

With the help of Tracy’s Aunty Jen she hopes that it will be possible to offer an alteration service.

A P Taylors will have a stall at Campbeltown Wedding Fayre in Victoria Hall.
