Glorious Glenbarr glasswork

-

A GLENBARR glassworker inspired by Tiffany designs has joined the Kintyre Crafters Group.

Former social worker John Titterton trained in Germany, more than a quarter of a century ago, to use copper foil and Tiffany techniques for creating coloured glass window hangings.

In 1894 Lousi Comfort Tiffany patented Favrile glass which is different to stained glass in that the colour is ingrained in the glass.

Molten glass is treated with metallic oxides to create an iridescent surface effect.

Mr Titterton said: ‘I was working in Münster with the SSAFA and I did the training for my own enjoyment.

‘My drawings for the designs have to be painstaking because I am not a great artist. I am inspired by Kintyre’s countryside and incorporate it into my work as much as possible.

‘I have joined the group because there is only so much work you can do for friends and family.’

Last year John set up Glenbarr Glassin and his work is displayed at the Argyll Hotel, Bellochantuy’s Studio Craft Space.
