A FIGHTING four by the Pupils led to a crushing victory in Paisley.
The Campbeltown side played well the whole match against Ferguslie Star and passed the ball around comfortably all afternoon.
After a few close calls, scoring opened in the 14th minute when Sary Rahma netted centre midfielder Ryan Deans’ through ball. Rahma outpaced the defence, drew the keeper out and drilled home a side- foot finish.
With the Pupils well on top, they came close to scoring a few times, before finally extending their lead in the 31st minute.
Keith Mitchell and Robin Barr combined to find Ryan McConnachie, who cut the ball back for Gary Grumoli to score with a superb scissor volley.
Ferguslie were a big side and the aerial route was their preferred method of play, causing a few problems for the Campbeltown side.
The Pupils’ goalkeeper Lammy punched away a couple of corners and a couple of goal mouth scrambles, leaving the Pupils with a deserved 2-0 half time lead.
With a stiff breeze behind them in the second half, and some defence that was too deep at times, Ferguslie had their best spell of play early in the second half.
Lammy pulled off a string of excellent saves, including two point-blank shots and a flying tip-over that was heading for the top corner.
After weathering the storm and regaining their composure, the Pupils passed up several chances to seal the game as Scott Souden and Barr tormented the home team all match.
A penalty in the 71st minute saw Rahma’s quick feet in the box upended as he turned a defender.
Paul Grumoli did an excellent job, sending the keeper the wrong way, making it 3-0 to the Campbeltown side.
Rahma completed the scoring in the 77th minute, when Souden linked with him.
Rahma turned his marker and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Ferguslie became very robust in last 10 minutes, lashing out several times and were lucky to finish with 11 men.
They had a final chance at the death of the match, but Grant cleared it off the line for the Pupils’ first clean sheet of the season.
The Campbeltown side played well, albeit Ferguslie league position.
Ferguslie never took defeat lightly, putting themselves about all game but the Pupils stood up to them.
A nasty incident in the last minute saw Lee smacked by the ball.
He had to come off with a bloody nose but the Pupils kept their discipline at all times.
The Pupils will play St Josephs FP away on Saturday April 29.
