Unsafe car

A SPLIT driveshaft rubber boot resulted in a £150 fine and three penalty points for a Campbeltown woman.

Police had inspected Leona McCallum’s vehicle on December 17 last year and found the fault in a constant velocity joint.

McCallum of 9B Glebe Street pleaded guilty by letter to a charge of having a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Speeding ban

PASSING through a police speed trap near Tayinloan at 76mph cost a Glasgow man his licence.

At a trial on Tuesday, Valentine Hope, 65, of 60 Harbury Place, Glasgow, pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaking the speed limit, near Balure Farm, on October 28 last year.

Hope was convicted and given three points on his licence but on the totting up procedure was banned from driving for six months.

Head-on collision

ABOUT half-a-mile south of Whitehouse, on February 17, two vehicles collided after a Falkirk driver tried to overtake a lorry.

Henry Joseph McCann, 49, of 22 Cauldhame Farm Road, Falkirk, pleaded guilty by letter to a charge of driving without due care and attention.

At the scene, McCann told police it was his fault. On Tuesday, before sentencing, the procurator fiscal described the offence as being at the upper end of what would be described as careless driving.

McCann was fined £200 and given six penalty points.
