Big hitter Harvey wins at Dunaverty
STRONG winds hampered golfers at Dunaverty’s season starter spring meeting.
Despite playing few rounds this year, Raymond Harvey outshone the field by recording a superb scratch 75 to give him a winning nett 58, five shots clear of runner-up Malcolm Ronald.
The match, sponsored by incoming captain John McDowall, attracted a field of 35 members.
It was also the first round qualifier for the Lephenstrath Trophy with the top eight scratch players hoping to consolidate their places in the next round on May 27.
First man out Sandy Watson posted an excellent scratch 74 to set a handicap target of nett 64.
Malcolm Ronald, enjoying a return to golf, shaved Sandy’s score by one stroke to lead on 63.
Duncan Watson III led the morning scratch players with a 71.
Lee Mathieson matched Duncan Watson’s scratch score but a better inward half ensured him the scratch prize of a bottle of whisky and a dozen Srixon golf balls and the Lorne medal.
At the presentation captain John McDowall thanked green keepers David Scullion and Willy MacMillan for the impeccable condition of the course and club steward Will Anderson for his catering and also the participants.
