Whisky galore at Campbeltown malts festival

-

A CELEBRATION of Campbeltown’s legendary whisky brands is set to get the town tipsy.

Campbeltown’s three historic distilleries, Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia, will team up to host the fourth annual Campbeltown Malts Festival at the end of May, in celebration of the region’s whisky heritage.

Honour

It will also honour the 175th anniversary of Cadenhead’s, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler and a sister company of Springbank.

The three-day festival will feature different events each day, with a Glen Scotia open day on Wednesday May 24, Springbank’s on Thursday May 26, and Friday May 26 dedicated to Mitchell’s Glengyle distillery and Cadenhead’s independent bottler.

The open days will feature tours, tastings, stalls and special bottlings, as well as much more.

On the Thursday evening, from 7pm to 11pm, Springbank will have live music from the Wee Toon Tellers and a licensed bar in the distillery’s malt barns.

Culminate

In honour of Cadenhead’s, the Thursday will culminate in a special dinner in Campbeltown Town Hall.

A Springbank spokesperson said: ‘If anyone is interested in getting involved in our open day, whether it’s having a stall to sell your products, selling food, providing music or entertainment, then please get in touch to secure your space.

‘We do not charge a stall holder fee for this event so it is completely free and all profits made will be yours.’

Festival organisers are also keen for all local businesses to get involved by putting on their own events over the festival week.

Great addition

The spokesperson added: ‘Anything from a whisky dinner in your restaurant to live music in your pub and everything in between would be a great addition.

‘Ideas don’t necessarily have to be whisky related - the more variety, the better.’
