Thought for the Week

- With Marilyn Shedden

CHRISTMAS came to our house in June this year.

I am a devoted fan of Christmas and I have always loved that special season.

I love it when children visit the house to see the decorations and fill it with their laughter.

I have to be restrained not to put the decorations up until at least November.

I expect you are wondering why on earth I’m talking about Christmas in June.

Well, the reason is that I had a very special birthday recently and a very special friend gave me a very special present.

It is a wonderful, all singing, all dancing, Christmas house and I love it.

However, even I can’t display this in mid-summer.

For everything there is a season.

God had Christmas planned for a very long time indeed and the time had to be just right to send his son into the world.

I wonder if he had to hold back his excitement before giving us this amazing gift.

We know from the Bible that God prepared the way for this gift. He gave us plenty of notice through the scriptures and the prophets.

And at Christmas he gave the world the gift of his son to show us the human face of God.

Yet when the gift came in the person of Jesus, people were surprised and some didn’t realise just how wonderful this was.

So in this mid-summer week which is far removed from Christmas, I look at my gift, and because it’s a gift of love, it is in season for any time and every time.

God’s timing is always right and although his gift came at Christmas, it is also for every moment of every single day.
