Bruce MacNab bags MacKenzie-Lamont

-

HOSTS Allan MacKenzie and David Lamont played consistent golf to finish well up the order in the Mackenzie-Lamont Fifth Major trophy.

But with full handicap allowance in this stableford event, none could beat Bruce MacNab, with 42 points. He had halves of 34+31 for a one-under 65, his round including four birdies.

Despite the heavy rainfall of last week, 20 players set out in quest of the coveted prize on a Glenralloch in fine condition thanks to greenkeepers Graham Prentice and Jim Brownlie’s dedication to work.

Host Allan MacKenzie was playing well and his one-under-par front nine gave him 21 points. A further 17 on the back nine gave him a total of 38 points and fifth place.

Steve Bleasby has been playing some decent golf of late and a storming back nine of 21 points put him into fourth place also on 38 points but by virtue of a better inward half.

Joint host David ‘Del Boy’ Lamont was his usual model of consistency and had five birdies in his round and with an inward nine of 31 shots took third place with a total of 38 points.

Newly crowned player/ manager of Tarbert AAFC, David Ronald took second place on 39 points, but for two sixes on the back nine David could easily have had a better score.

A club spokesman said: ‘So another successful day at Tarbert Golf Club with the members as always grateful to Allan and David for their continued support.’
