Police constable assaulted

-

A WOMAN who took off her boot to hit a police constable was ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work by a Campbeltown sheriff.

Vicky Louise Gamble, 22, of 26A Burnside Street, Campbeltown, had previously pleaded guilt to a charge of assaulting a constable in Burnside Street on June 23 and taking off one of her boots and attempting to strike the officer on the head.

Gamble pleaded guilty to a further charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner the same day.

Gamble’s sentencing had been deferred, until last Thursday, for social work reports.

The procurator fiscal depute told the court that police had been driving along Longrow at 3am on June 23 when they were alerted to the incident.

Gamble told police: It is f ***** to do with you a ******** .’

In mitigation defence solicitor Stephen MacSporran said that Gamble had a miscarriage last year which made her depressed.

He added that the social work report suggested a period of unpaid work as a suitable punishment.

Record

Sheriff Patrick Hughes said that looking at Gamble’s record community payback orders have been breached in the past.

Mr MacSporran replied that his client is more mature and has calmed down.

Sheriff Hughes made the order for 140 hours of unpaid work to be completed in nine months and said: ‘If it does not get done you are going straight to prison.’
