Pupils U13s’ league domination continues
CAMPBELTOWN Pupils Youth Under 13s (2005s) enjoyed their first ever away game in the DFDL as they romped to a convincing 6-1 win over Ardencaple BC, building on their opening win the weekend before.
Kicking off at 11.45am on the Hermitage Academy 3G pitch in Helensburgh last Sunday the young Pupils showed no signs of their early start and long bus journey as they took early control.
The Ardencaple keeper made a number of excellent saves in early exchanges before the Pupils broke the deadlock.
Recent Lochgilphead signing Kyle Danson broke into the 18-yard box and reacted to the keeper’s fine save from his initial shot to blast the ball home from a tight angle.
Encouraged by their domination Scott Graham added a second when Lorne Paterson played him in. Driving forward, the young left-midfielder collected the ball before unleashing a superb left-footed strike from 16 yards leaving the Ardencaple keeper no chance.
The Kintyre side was in total control and playing excellent football. Ryan Shields, who scored twice the week before, quickly added another brace of goals.
Young Shields is proving to have an eye for the goal and showed composure beyond his years to beat the offside trap twice to round the keeper and calmly slot the ball home. On a rare attack into the visitors’ half, the Helensburgh side pulled one back.
A cross from the right took an unkind wicked deflection off one of the Pupils’ defenders, leaving Kerr in the goal with no chance as it sailed in high.
Ardencaple played their best spell of the game but Michael Campbell, Josh Arkell, Kyle Paterson and Ryan Harding in defence were in no mood to concede.
Ardencaple started the second half on the ascendancy and were unlucky not to pull a couple of goals back with Finlay Kerr in the Pupils goal saving his side.
The Pupils weathered the storm and started to dominate again. Calum McAllister was unlucky not to extend the lead for the Pupils on a couple of occasions before Calum Ellis made it 5-1.
The pocket dynamo had harassed the Ardencaple defence all
day and got his reward when he broke clear and coolly slotted the ball home.
Ethan Parker was introduced with 25 minutes to go and was unlucky not to score in his first involvement as he too beat the offside trap only to see his left-footed strike come off the base of the post.
With 10 minutes remaining,
Shields was upended in the six-yard box as he raced round the keeper. From the resulting penalty Owen Reid gave the keeper no chance as he blasted the ball home.
This was just reward for the former Castlehill School student - Reid had a fine game in the centre of midfield.
The Kintyre side
squandered several chances to extend their lead in the closing minutes but the final score of 6-1 made the journey home all the more enjoyable for everyone. The Pupils u13s will play Glasgow team Broomhill Sports Club at home this Sunday. Kick off is at 1.30pm on the 3G pitch, Kinloch Green.
