Folk rockers roll into Campbeltown
A BAND, which according to Runrig’s Calum Macdonald plays music of heart, substance and message, has its third Wee Toon date tomorrow.
Alex MacDonald and his band have played their unique brand of Scottish folk rock across Scotland from village halls to larger city venues like Leith Town Hall.
Calum said of their first album: ‘Good ‘real’ music of heart and substance and message… the style and attitude of the backing music was right up my street. The first song is a cracker...’
And music writer Tom Morton was equally complimentary: ‘I very much enjoyed the CD – particularly the opening track, which is like a Calvinist Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts… It’s a film, that song... It all has both charm and soul… a great gift for storytelling...’
This will be the first occasion when they will be playing songs from Alex’s forthcoming album which should be released later this year.
The band will be playing in the Free Church, George Street, Campbeltown at 7.30pm tomorrow.
The proceeds from this fundraising gig will go to help Shopper Aide and to the Christian relief organisation, Tearfund, to help with the South Asian flood appeal.
Entry is by donation at the door. Alex’s CDs will also be on sale.
