Disco dance promoter litters Wee Toon streets
WORKERS from a Lowestoft-based events firm flyposted Campbeltown in a blitz to advertise a November concert.
Last Wednesday Countrywide Events posters, with details of the Victoria hall concert and carrying the Argyll and Bute Council logo, appeared on almost every railing of the esplanade, on car windscreens and the traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossing.
An event promoter in Campbeltown told the Courier that usually bill-posting is not allowed and any put up would be quickly removed.
The posters remained in place until Monday despite the Courier asking the council whether there is a policy on bill-posting last Friday.
A council spokesman said: ‘Any poster which is a danger to the public or obstructs visibility will be removed.’
The Courier understands that although the council is selling tickets for the concert and renting out Victoria hall, it is not involved in the event’s promotion.
Countrywide Events boss Shane Palmer, said: ‘The event is a partnership with the council.
‘The guys will have put the posters up on postboards on lampposts. It is common practice around the country.
‘You can go to Glasgow and stick them anywhere you wish, but some places are more particular.
‘I believe ticket sales are going reasonably well for the gig in Campbeltown and another one at the Corran Halls in Oban. Sales are always slow in Campbeltown and Oban as people tend to buy at the last minute. Countrywide last came to Campbeltown about 25 years ago.
‘It is not all about making money, Countrywide is bringing a great show to the community. If we get 300 people at each venue, it will be great.’
Tickets for the show are £20 and according to an enquiry at the Aqualibrium, about 25 have been sold.
