Springbank Distillery shortliste­d in Business Insider Scotland awards

A SPIRITED entry by a Campbeltow­n distillery firm saw it shortliste­d for an employer of the year award.

J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd which owns Springbank, Mitchell’s Glengyle distillery and the independen­t bottler William Cadenhead Ltd was nominated in the employer of the year small and medium sized enterprise category of the Business Insider Scotland awards.

The company employs more than 80 people, up from 59 in 2015, most of whom are from Campbeltow­n and the surroundin­g areas.

J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd was commend- ed for the opportunit­ies it gives employees to learn new skills and undertake management programmes, among host of other initiative­s recognised by the judges.

Staff from throughout the company were in attendance at the awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Des Clarke in the Grand Central hotel in Glasgow.

Delighted

A company spokespers­on said: ‘While we missed out on the award itself, which went to the technology firm Dacoll Ltd, the company was delighted to have been shortliste­d for the award in such a hotly-contested category.

‘Small-medium sized enterprise­s make up 99 per cent of businesses in Scotland, emphasisin­g the achievemen­t in reaching the final four in the category.’

HR director Linda McAulay, said: ‘It is nice that our commitment and dedication to our staff has been recognised in this way and the nomination will help to spur us on to continue to do the best we can for all of our employees.’
