Campbeltown flautist returns to perform on home turf
A FORMER Campbeltown flautist will blow into her old haunts to perform as part of the Monzari Trio.
Next week Kintyre Music Club welcomes Lee Holland and the trio’s other performers, violinist Rachel Spencer and cellist Feargus Egan, to perform at their second concert of the 2017/18 season.
Monzari Trio is an exciting partnership between successful performers in their own right who share a passion for chamber music.
The trio met 10 years ago while studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and have since pursued varied freelance careers.
Flautist Lee, whose parents live in Campbeltown, studied at the Purcell School of Music and subsequently at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
She currently performs with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra of Scottish Opera.
Recently she performed contemporary composer Charlotte Seither’s solo work, Seul avec des Ombres, for a Pre-Prom concert recorded by the BBC.
Lee is an early years education specialist and has worked with the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
Rachel, on violin, enjoys a wide-ranging freelance career as a soloist and chamber musician.
She studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and subsequently at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Alexander Janiczek.
Rachel has appeared at festivals across Europe and on broadcasts for the BBC. As an orchestral player, she performs regularly with the Philharmonia, and Royal Scottish National Orchestras.
Outreach scheme
Also passionate about music education, she has been an artist for the outreach scheme Live Music since 2011. That job has seen her lead music education projects across the UK, Denmark and the Middle East.
Completing the trio, Feargus, on cello, graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2012 and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
A dedicated chamber musician, Feargus has performed with the Chillingirian, Jubilee and Maxwell Quartets and performed at festivals in France and the Netherlands.
He currently pursues a freelance career where he teaches and performs regularly with orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
He has travelled widely as principal cello of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, Camerata Scotland and contemporary ensemble NYOS Futures.
The trio’s programme for the evening includes pieces by Haydn, Eddie Mcguire, Eugène Walckiers, Corelli, Elgar, Stamitz and Bartok.
In a change from their usual venue the concert will be held in the New Hall, Lorne and Lowland Church.
Tickets for the concert on Friday November 3 at 7.30pm are available at the door, adults £10 and students free.
